1970's - Where it All Began
It started with a man and a mission. Bill Hinks Sr. had a desire to bring the things people need to them - giving a a good value at a fair price... a simple mission that continues to be the center of what has become a great corporation.
1977 - Where it All Began
Founder William A. Hinks opens the very first store - Unclaimed Freight Furniture - in Sioux Falls, SD with a warehouse full of left-over furniture from a mobile home sales lot he had sold.
1979 - The Growing Begins
Unclaimed Freight Furniture catches on in the community and spreads its wings, opening a second location in Mitchell, SD.
1980's - All In Moderation
With a successful start and a vision for the future, it is only natural for the growth to begin...
1984 - Moving Day
Unclaimed Freight Furniture in Sioux Falls moves to it's current and larger location on West 12th Street.
1989 - The Perfect Compliment
A new relationship begins as we open our Carpet One franchise in the building across the parking lot from Unclaimed Freight Furniture on West 12th Street.
1990's - A Decade of Growth and Opportunity
Growth is in full force - on the fast track with our focus on value.
1991 - Northward Bound
The company ventures to Fargo, ND and opens Love-It Furniture, modeled after the Unclaimed Freight Furniture operating strategy.
1992 - Heading East
Another furniture store opens in Mankato, MN, under the operating name Love-It Furniture.
1993 - Clearing the Way
Carpet One moves to a new location in the Western Mall in Sioux Falls, SD.
Our first Clearance Center opens in its current location in Sioux Falls, SD - across the parking lot from Unclaimed Freight Furniture.
1994 - A New Store, A New Name
The current Furniture Outlets USA store in Medford, MN opens near the Medford Outlet Mall, as the first store carrying the flagship identity.
1995 - Adding to Success
The third Unclaimed Freight Furniture opens in Watertown, SD.
1996 - A New Outlet
The current Furniture Outlets USA store opens in Spirit Lake, IA.
1997 - A New Debut
Named one of "America's Best Retailers" by Furniture Today.
Furniture Outlets USA makes it's debut appearance on the Top 100 Retail Furniture Stores in the country.
The 4th Unclaimed Freight Furniture store, located in Yankton, SD, is added to our corporate family .
1998 - A One and Only
Our first and only South Dakota Furniture Mart opens in the Western Mall in Sioux Falls, SD.
1999 - Another Outlet
Our third Furniture Outlets USA store identity opens in the Tanger Outlet Center in North Branch, MN.
2000's - A New Generation
A tried and true mission continues to grow, stretching a value conscious furniture retailer across the upper midwest.
2000 - Moving Right Along
Love-It Furntiure in Mankato, MN moves to its current location and changes its operating structure to Furniture Outlets USA.
2001 - A Busy Year
The Corporate Distribution Center opens in Sioux Falls, SD, Bringing with it the Factory Clearance Center.
Furniture Outlets USA opens in Fargo, ND; marking our second store in that market to serve a wider range of customers.
Our first Ashley Furniture HomeStore opens in North Branch, MN near the existing Furniture Outlets USA store.
2002 - Take 2
Our second Ashley Furniture HomeStore opens in Albertville, MN near the Albertville Outlet Mall.
2003 - Seeing Doubles
Two new Ashley Furniture HomeStores open in Medford, MN and Rochester, MN.
2004 - And 4 More
Our second Distribution Center is opened in Fridley, MN to serve our recent growth in the Twin Cities region.
In Shakopee, MN, we celebrate the opening of our fifth Ashley Furniture Homestore and add the sixth store bearing the identity of Furniture Outlets USA.
Our sixth Ashley Furniture HomeStore is added to the Distribution Center in Fridley, MN.
2005 - Ashley on My Mind
Our seventh Ashely Furniture HomeStore opens near St. Paul in Woodbury, MN
Our Ashley Furniture HomeStore in Maplewood, MN also opens, marking our eighth of this franchise.
2006 - More Progress
South Dakota Furniture Mart and Carpet One are each remodeled, giving Carpet One its own entrance on the south side of the Western Mall and increasing South Dakota Furniture Mart's size substantially to an impressive 120,000 sq. ft..
Unclaimed Freight Furniture and Ashley Furniture HomeStore opens in Pierre, SD
Furniture Outlets USA is selected as the exclusive provider of furniture for ABC's "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" remodel of the Thibodeau Family's home.
2007 - Growth and Change
A new Unclaimed Freight Furntiure store opens in Sioux City, IA.
Love-It Furniture in Fargo, ND gets a face-lift and re-opens as Unclaimed Freight Furniture.
Two more Ashley Furniture HomeStores open- one in Grand Forks, ND and another in Sioux Falls, SD.
